FAQ

The main difference between insurance packages in Cyprus is that there are those that exclusively offer coverage in case of hospitalization (e.g. surgery expenses) and those that additionally cover outpatient expenses (e.g. doctor visits, medicine). The introduction of the General Health System in 2018 has led the majority of citizens to opt for plans offering just in-patient coverage.

Private insurance is synonymous with the highest quality of healthcare. Individuals choosing private health insurance have immediate access to the best doctors in Cyprus, avoiding the long waiting lists and queues outside doctors’ offices. The most significant advantage though is that in case of severe illness or injury, privately insured individuals have immediate access to top clinics around the world without being restricted to the ones in Cyprus.

In case you have recovered but continue to receive medical treatment, you will need to provide us with your latest medical exams or take new ones so we can determine whether to offer you full coverage with an excess, or if we will retain the average insurance cost but make an exception for your pre-existing condition and anything that could possibly be related to it. This procedure is called full medical underwriting. With our Executive Packages, in case you have fully recovered and have not been receiving any kind of medical treatment for the past five years, we will then offer you immediate medical coverage without exceptions and without an excess. If you choose any of our international insurance packages and in the last five years you have been diagnosed with an illness from which you have fully recovered, we will provide you coverage. This means that from the day you sign your contract and for the duration of two years, you will not have coverage for any condition related to your pre-existing condition. You will be provided full coverage after those two years.

We consider it a moral obligation to offer medical insurance coverage to everyone. In case you are undergoing medical treatment, we will most likely ask for your latest medical exams or request that you take additional ones. After carefully examining your exam results, we will decide whether to set an excess amount or an exception.

With the introduction of the General Health System, purchasing outpatient coverage through a private insurance contract is considered unnecessary. Individuals can now visit their personal doctor who can refer them for medical exams at a particularly low cost. Foreign nationals with no access to the GHS can use their immigration insurance to cover their outpatient hospital expenses.

There are several ways to decrease the cost of your insurance. For example, you can choose an excess amount so that the insurance company can handle the cost for amounts over 200 or 300 euro. You can choose to exempt your outpatient expenses from your coverage, as well as restrict your coverage to a particular geographical region. You can also opt for certain coverages to be exempted, like for example the childbirth subsidy or optical benefit. For more information, contact us.
